NORA is always working on exciting projects in affordable housing, commercial revitalization and land stewardship. The below information summarizes NORA projects currently in progress or completed.

Commercial Revitalization Broad Refresh
NORA provided funding for this catalytic project, an innovative fresh food hub located on North Broad Street at Bienville Avenue in New Orleans which includes a Whole Foods Grocery, Liberty’s Kitchen, Tulane University’s Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine, and offices for several non-profit organizations.

Commercial Revitalization Café Reconcile
Café Reconcile benefited from a NORA loan to help rehabilitate their building on Oretha Castle Haley, including the exterior façade, restaurant interiors, and renovations to the upper floors for community space.

2100 Oretha Castle Haley
NORA partnered with developer RedMellon to renovate this blighted building, now home to 4 affordable housing units and ground floor office space.

Commercial Revitalization Franz Building
NORA provided funding for this community business hub, home to Good Work Network and other neighborhood businesses and nonprofits.

Commercial Revitalization HUB NOLA
NORA provided funding for this co-working space home to entrepreneurs, small business owners, freelancers, non-profits, and foundations whose work is making a difference in New Orleans.

Commercial Revitalization Harrell Building
NORA is proud to have our office on the historic Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard. In addition to NORA’s offices, the building also includes field office for Louisiana State Senator Karen Carter Peterson, BlueBag and the future home of an IberiaBank branch on the ground floor.

Affordable Housing King-Rampart Apartments
NORA provided funding to construct this new apartment building with 70 units of housing for our local seniors

Commercial Revitalization Healing Center
Located at the intersection of St Claude and St Roch avenues in the 8th Ward of New Orleans, the Healing Center is a 55,000-square foot commercial building providing needed retail services and programs promoting physical, nutritional, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being.

Affordable Housing Affordable Single Family Home Development
NORA provided $30 million for the development of over 286 units of affordable housing across the city. This photo is from the Make It Right project which was a beneficiary of the funding.

Land Stewardship Pilot Raingardens
NORA is leading the way in sustainable development, including new raingardens on formerly vacant lots, which collect water from the streets during rainevents and capture it onsite with native landscaping.

Affordable Housing The Dr. Everett and Melva Williams Building
NORA provided funding for this 42-unit apartment building which is now home to formerly homeless or low income residents, with preference for homeless veterans.  It includes fitness rooms and community rooms, as well as on-site case management, computer labs and 24/7 security.

Affordable Housing Rosa F. Keller Building
This 60-unit, sustainably designed building is home to low income and formerly homeless New Orleanians, with onsite social and medical services.

Affordable Housing McCaleb Residences
The McCaleb Residences is a 43-unit multifamily rental housing development in Central City. Twenty one of the units are designated as permanent supportive housing for the homeless. The McCaleb development includes ground floor multi-function space, and private offices for counseling and support services.

Commercial Revitalization Crescent Club Retail
NORA provided funding for a new retail shopping center located at 3001 Tulane Avenue in the Mid City neighborhood of New Orleans. The new retail shopping center consists of 8 retail shopping bays with parking in the rear of the site.

Commercial Revitalization Gentilly Walmart
The Gentilly Woods site at 4301 Chef Menteur Highway remained undeveloped since Hurricane Katrina. NORA purchased the property will soon become a Walmart where residents in Gentilly and nearby neighborhoods will enjoy access to one-stop, low priced shopping with features such as a full line of fresh foods and a wide assortment of products and services, missing in the area since 2005.

Commercial Revitalization Myrtle Banks
NORA provided funding to rehabilitate this former public school building, built in 1910 and vacant and dilapidated since Katrina.  It will soon be home to a fresh food market, co-working space, and offices for community and non-profit organizations.

Commercial Revitalization Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market
NORA provided funding to establish the first-ever home of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra inside the former Gators Department Store at Oretha Castle Haley and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards.  The building will also include a performance space with a coffee shop, a bar and a digital learning center.

Affordable Housing South Saratoga Street Residences
NORA has developed 5 affordable housing units on a property it owns in Central City near many of our other investments along the Oretha Castle Haley corridor, including Myrtle Banks and the Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market.

Land Stewardship Alternative Maintenance Project
In order to beautify and stabilize neighborhoods, while reducing NORA’s long-term operating costs for vacant lot maintenance, NORA is exploring new treatments to some of our vacant lots which include native landscaping and fences.
